In the project The Past Visible On The Surface, I am researching and documenting the different multi-ethnic layers that I encountered during my stay in Turkey from 2019 to 2025.
It started as a walk through the oldest part of Istanbul. I noticed that the multi-ethnic layering the city — and the country as well — is known for was very visible through its dwellings and urban structure.
These traces were, and still are, under great pressure of disappearing completely. I felt the urge to learn more about them, their stories, and to document them.
